IBP SEO: How to do keyword research using Internet Business Promoter
Hi, this is Victor, and today I am going to show you how to do keyword research using an SEO software program called Internet Business Promoter (IBP). By the end of this tutorial, you will know how to find keywords that you can easily compete for, but get many visitors. Let’s begin shall we.
The first step is to choose your ‘seed’ keyword. What is a ‘seed keyword’? It is basically a general term you use to describe your product. The example I will be using today is ‘dog training’. There are many dog training products out there in the market, with different names and brands. However, you can describe all of them using the ‘seed’ keyword ‘dog training’. So let’s type it into the search form.
The second step is to choose the keyword database from which related keywords will be generated. I have chosen KeywordIndex.com, because it integrates well with Internet Business Promoter. If you click on the button above the search form, you can see all of the keyword databases you can draw from. As you can see, there is a variety to choose from, and it is one of the many features that make IBP so powerful.
The third step is easy. You simply press the ‘Search’ button, and automatically, IBP will give you related keywords and the number of searches per day.
Next, you press ‘Add All Keywords’ at the bottom. This transfers all of the data to the right hand side for you to examine. Then, it is time to press ‘Get Searches, Results & KEI’. This takes a couple of minutes. The beauty of this is that it is automated. So you can sit back and relax while all of the important information is being delivered to you.
It has finished, and now it’s time to investigate your keywords. So the first column lists all of the generated keywords. The second column lists the number of times people search for the keyword per day. The third column lists the number of search results you would get if you typed in the keyword. This pretty much represents the size of your competition. The fourth column shows the KEI, the Keyword Effectiveness Index. It is a rough measure of how good the keyword is, in terms of the number of people that look for it, and the competition. Basically, the higher the KEI, the better. For now, it is a good indicator of which keywords you should consider targeting. So let’s sort the keywords by KEI.
And just briefly looking at this list, we can see some good keywords are ‘dog training collar’, ‘electronic dog training collar’ and ‘electronic dog training collars’. So it seems that dog training collars are a hot item. I recommend ignoring the keywords with over a million searches, since it is likely that you will take a long time to rank for them. But with that aside, you can consider building a website or blog about dog training collars and promote them. If you do this correctly, you can really cash in.
